   The Northern Zhou arose from the disintegration of the Western Wei Dynasty in $\text{557 \text{CE}}$. The foundational figure was Yuwen Tai, a powerful regent of Western Wei, whose death in $\text{557 \text{CE}}$ led to a power vacuum.
