    Self-Induced Precession and the Larmor Analogy
    A striking, though often misleading, analogy exists between the motion of a vortex filament and the Larmor precession of a charged particle in a magnetic field. A curved segment of a vortex line induces a velocity component perpendicular to its own axis, causing the entire segment to move bodily (translate) in the direction of its curvature.
