   Phase III: Chinese Intervention and Stalemate (October 1950–July 1951)
   The People's Volunteer Army (PVA) of the PRC secretly intervened in massive numbers beginning in late October 1950. The overwhelming presence of Chinese "volunteers," often appearing suddenly in dense, coordinated waves, surprised and routed the overextended UN forces.
