    History and Naming
    The area now designated as Mountain View was originally inhabited by the Ohlone people. Following the establishment of the Mission San Francisco de Asís in 1776, the region remained largely undeveloped agricultural land under Spanish and later Mexican governance. The modern settlement began with the establishment of a stagecoach stop in 1850, and the town was officially incorporated in 1905.
