Cofactors and Coenzymes
Many enzymes require non-protein helper molecules, known as cofactors, for their activity. These are broadly divided into inorganic ions (e.g., $\text{Mg}^{2+}$, $\text{Zn}^{2+}$) and organic molecules called coenzymes.
