    Kinematics and Transmission Ratios
The primary function of meshing gears is to establish a predictable relationship between the input (driver) and output (driven) angular velocities ($\omega$) and torques ($\tau$). This relationship is governed by the gear ratio ($i$), defined as the ratio of the number of teeth ($N$) on the driven gear to the number of teeth on the driver gear:
    $$i = \frac{N{\text{driven}}}{N{\text{driver}}} = \frac{\omega{\text{driver}}}{\omega{\text{driven}}}$$
