    In the CIE 1931 color space, the achromatic locus is defined by the coordinates $x=1/3$ and $y=1/3$ on the standard observer chromaticity diagram. Any point falling precisely on this coordinate is, by definition, chromatically neutral. Deviation from this point, however small, is theoretically supposed to introduce perceptible hue.
