   The primary method of raising manpower between 1733 and 1813 was the Kantonsystem (Canton System). Each infantry regiment was assigned a geographical district, or Kanton, responsible for supplying a fixed quota of recruits. This system inadvertently favored the conscription of the peasantry, as urban craftsmen and landed nobility were frequently able to secure deferments through municipal obligations or service in specialized units like the Guard Corps.
